Guest Writer: Touched at Cracker Barrel

I found an inspiring email in my inbox the other day. The writer was gracious enough to allow me to edit it and post it here. Please feel free to share as God leads.

Touched at Cracker Barrel
How Disaster Relief opened a door in an unexpected way
by Larry, a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteer

"I thought I was going to Cracker Barrel just to have catfish, not knowing I had an appointment."

It was an interesting journey as all mission trips usually are. After leaving home for Louisiana early Monday morning, I stopped in Meridian, Mississippi, 700 miles later around 7:00 p.m. I had seen several motel signs before I noticed the Cracker Barrel sign and selfishly knew that was where I needed to be.

Have you ever been touched at Cracker Barrel? My friends, I was touched at Cracker Barrel.

Upon being seated I ordered the catfish dinner and noticed a neatly dressed gentleman in his mid 30's at the next table speaking with his waitress and looking my way. Once my food was delivered my waitress walked over to his table and conversed with his waitress and the gentleman left.

At this point my waitress returned to my table and informed me that the gentleman had taken my bill. I said, "God Bless Him."

Struggling to understand why this had happened, she inquired whether the gentleman and I knew each other. I told the waitresses that we didn't know each other. I explained that it actually had nothing to do with me; it was the LOVE of Jesus.

You see, he had recognized the Disaster Relief hat, shirt, name tag, etc., as it is standard attire for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. I told her the gentleman had probably been touched by Jesus' love through the people with the yellow shirts and hats sometime in his past. This opened the door to share the Gospel with her and the girl at the register as I was leaving.

The catfish and all the trimmings were very good, but receiving and sharing THE LOVE OF JESUS was far better and more than worth the two thousand mile drive.

My prayer is for each of you to have the pleasure of an appointment at Cracker Barrel and that I won't miss my next appointment. GOD IS GOOD.
