Questions: Gifts & Gears

This is part four of a series of questions intended to help you find a long-term ministry in which to serve.  To get the most out of this series, I suggest you work from the beginning.  The articles in this series are now part of a guide at BibleStoreBrowser.com entitled Finding a Ministry that Fits.

Here are some questions about your spiritual gifts and the way God has geared your personality.  Next time we'll bring it all together to determine the right ministry opportunities just for you!

What seem to be your spiritual gifts?  You can search online for a "spiritual gifts assessment".  Assessments with at least three questions per gift will be more reliable.  Have you taken an assessment and aren't sure what the results mean?  Plenty of sites give explanations of what each gift means.

Tip:
Take at least a couple different assessments from time to time as you gain life experience.  Why more than one?  Because some assessments place more emphasis on actual experience than interest and because some test for a different number of gifts.  Over time, one or more gifts will consistently stick out above the others.  That's a good indication they are your spiritual gifts.

How do you like to interact with people?  Are you outgoing or do you keep to yourself?  Do you like talking one-on-one or to groups?  Would you rather talk to people or write to them?  Do you joke a lot or are you more reserved?  How would others describe you?

Knowledge and helps always rank high for me in spiritual gifts assessments.
I would rather interact one-on-one, preferably via email. (No surprise there, huh?) I'm pretty reserved and when I do joke people often don't get it right away. A friend of mine in high school told me I was just on a different plane from everyone else! People who know me online would probably have a different opinion of me from those I know only offline. I've heard from "real life" friends that I'm nice and a good listener, but hard to get to know. Would you believe I'm kind of shy? (I'd be interested to hear from those of you who know me here!)

Thanks for the link from your site and for taking the time to comment......and I guess it's good that the comment was positive too! So far God has really made it clear that He is behind this, and it's fun to let follow what He wants with this. Good blogs here this week. Take care!

Knowlegde, wisdom, teaching, and administration seems to be the spiritual gifts that come up the strongest for me in the tests, but I also know I have others. I tend to want to suppliment any ministry that lacks - whether it be by serving, or making connections so that others could serve, or by providing resourses and aids to help that ministry be more effective. Although I must admit, children's ministry is the exception for me as far as that goes. I must need a lot of growth in that area. :) I know it's important, I'm just not called to it.

I, too, would rather interact one-on-one, and preferably via email! But I think that's to give myself time to listen to the Holy Spirit guiding me in my words rather than rush into speaking on my own without Him. I can pray and reflect instead of just blurting something out that may hurt someone. Likewise with one-on-one, there's less damage to clean up if there's too much of me getting in the way of what God would say to others through me, than if I were speaking to a crowd. :)

Being someone who used to know you in "real life" but now know you better online, I wouldn't say you are shy, but rather careful to not do or say the wrong thing. That's a good thing! I'm sure you are more free to be yourself online, and feel like you can express what God's given you while you seek the truth of His Word and heart better online than off, but I suspect that's for the same reasons that I have, and not because you are insecure or have nothing of value to say. I admire you for using the gifts God gives you to reach out to others in the way that you do. Perhaps later, God will stretch you into using your gifts and strengths equally in person with many as you do online, maybe not. Either way, do continue to be who you are in Christ... a blessing and help to others.

Yeah, Livi goes to school 1/2 day, every day. (1-3:30 pm) Bftn is all day, every day. I can't express what a huge difference that is to a first-time kindergarten mom. I basically just let her go have fun with friends during the other girls' naptimes. It doesn't feel like she's really at "school" at all.
