Questions: Skills and Talents

This is part two of a series of questions intended to help you find a long-term ministry in which to serve.  To get the most out of this series, I suggest you work from the beginning.  The articles in this series are now part of a guide at BibleStoreBrowser.com entitled Finding a Ministry that Fits.

The focus of this set of questions is your skills and talents.  Be sure to write down your answers somewhere (like in a file saved on your desktop) because at the end of this series, you'll be able to look back at your answers to evaluate what ministries might be ideal for you. Check back soon for questions about what really drives you!

What special skills or talents do you have?  Don't be modest here!  List everything that comes to mind.

What things do people compliment you on?  What do they say you do well?  Consider things at work and/or school, at home, or in everyday life.

What skills or talents do you really enjoy using?  Maybe they're things you like to do in your job or in your hobbies, whether hands-on (playing an instrument, instructing, creating, driving) or abstract (planning, problem-solving, evaluating).  Are there things you like to do that you don't get to do anymore?

Here's a fun question to which you can share your answer if you'd like: What's your hobby?  If you're feeling creative: How could you turn it into a service if you had the time?

My hobby is. . . Bible study! I think you already know how I have turned that into a ministry! Another hobby, one I don't do much of because my true passions win out, is crochet. A service I could do with that is to crochet afghans for those in need. I've also thought about the Guideposts Sweater Project which is mostly knitting, which I can do--I like crochet better because it goes faster and if you mess up, it's a LOT easier to correct!--but they have crochet instructions, too. Having never made a sweater it might be something fun and worthwhile to do sometime.

It's hard to type outloud the gifts God has given me, but I praise and thank Him for them with all my heart! My first and foremost passion and gift is worshipping God with my voice and body (bowing, raising arms to Him, dancing), but a very close second for me is studying and teaching God's Word. I desire for all believers to know God intimately and to grow up well in unity and faith, to where they go out in their own ministry to touch the lives of even more souls for the kingdom! I feel almost sent to help tear down the walls human beings within the church have built up to keep themselves from the truth of God. I also have leadership giftings and a heart for prayer (the connection to hear and learn from God kind, more than intercessory prayer, which I'm working to stretch those muscles into more as well). I pray continiously for the greater gifts that will reveal God's glory and love to others in real ways! In using all these gifts together, I could disciple others personally, or in groups, teaching them God's Word and then sending them out in their callings, keeping them supported, encouraged, and accountable. In wherever God leads me to serve Him, I will humbly follow with a grateful heart and serve with all I am... because He gave His life for me!

I hope more people comment here too, I'd love to see what others are gifted with and how they can use it for God's glory!
