How do YOU minister?

We are called to serve Jesus.  As part of a short Christian ministry series at BibleStoreBrowser.com, I will be listing some questions that have to do with that subject.  Some questions are out of curiosity.  Others are to help you find a ministry that fits you.  Still others are a chance for you to share your thoughts or experiences so that you can help others.  I hope you have fun and that these discussions get you excited about prospective ministries in which YOU can be involved!

Are you plugged into a ministry at your church?
If so, what do you do?  How do you see Jesus working in it?
If not, what hinders you?

What improvements would you like to see in ministries at your church?  (It may have something to do with what's holding back you or others.)  Don't worry if your ideas are off the wall or beyond what you can personally do.  Many great things begin with thinking outside the box!  [This isn't a place to criticize your church, but to brainstorm for ways to build up the body of Christ!)

Are you involved in a ministry outside your church?  Talk about it!  What's its mission? How were you led to it?  Share whatever you want about it!

The articles in this series are now part of a guide at BibleStoreBrowser.com entitled Finding a Ministry that Fits.

To be fair, I'll start!
Because I'm not a member of our church (complicated), I'm not involved in an ongoing ministry there, BUT it was my inability to get plugged in as a nonmember that led to the creation of BibleStoreBrowser.com, which I hope helps people in their walks with Christ.
I'd like to see a Volunteer Ministry at our church. This would be a group of people who will help anyone from regular attenders to long-time members discover ministries that fit the way God made them and maybe even serve as a liaison to the church planners/steering committee/what have you in creation of new ministries. I'm passionate about passion-led service to God!

Like you, I've been a memebr of a church in the next city north of me, that was all full in every possible ministry you could think of, and they were actually turning volunteers away. In my frustration to pour out what God is continually pouring into me, I started blogging my spiritual journey, which turned almost into a ministry in itself. Since then, I've been able to share my learning and discovery of God's Word with others and that has blessed me beyond messure. In addition to that, in seeking a local Biblical church, my husband and I have found a smaller church where we can serve in multiple areas of ministry! Right away, we'd like to become involved in a home group, but eventually lead one. Also, I know I am created to lead or help lead in worship, I am a worshipper (not just a lover) of God to my core, so I see myself getting involved on the worship team there too! I know the gifts God has given me, to teach His Word, to lead others to following after Jesus with their whole heart, and to give back to Him with the talents He's given me! It's my honor and great priviledge to be able to serve God and others in any and every way He leads and allows me to!

I'm going to post again in response to more of the questions about, "What improvements would you like to see in ministries at your church?" - in brainstorming, since I'm almost churchless at the moment.

I think churches need to have a discipleship program in place that caters to each individual. Where personal growth is assured because there is a system in place that doesn't allow people to slip through the cracks. Aren't we a Body so that we can help support and nourish each other anyway? This program would teach the Bible and help each person discover and develop their spiritual gifts and callings, and successfully plug them into that area of ministry. When people are doing their God-given purpose in God's power, there is no such thing as burn-out, they are doing what they are passionate about and bear fruit - it will be a fulfilling where they wouldn't want to stop, unless God intervenes and gives another direction to their calling. Since everyone in Christ has a function within the church, even if it seems insignificant, it's important and we should all have a place of ministry within our local Body. I Corinthians 12
